GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Members of Grace Baptist Church
established the Grace Baptist Memorial Scholarship Fund in 1986. The purpose of the Scholarship Fund is to assist
and encourage qualified students who are active members of the Church in their initial
pursuit of higher education.
A quarterly meeting was held in
April 1987, at which time a committee was elected by Church membership. This committee was charged by the congregation to
prepare an instrument, which would establish guidelines and develop criteria by which
students would submit applications seeking scholarship aid.
This committee continues to serve
with members changing as necessary. The
members of the committee are: Deacon. Deborah L. Wyrick, Ph.D., Chairperson, Trustee Eva
Anderson, Secretary, Deacon Juanita P Kent, Treasurer, Deacon Thomas B Piland, and Pastor
Larry C. Green
The first recipient of the
scholarship was Ms. Tricia Neal, who is a graduate of Howard University School of
Pharmacy. Since its inception the
committee has granted scholarships to over 50 students totaling over $120,000.00
In 1998 the committee introduced
the Academic Incentive Awards Program. The
program is designed to encourage all youth of the Church from Grades 1 through 12 in their
academic courses by granting cash awards for achieving As and Bs. Students earning all As will have their
names engraved on a perpetual plaque now hanging in the Church foyer. To date more than 400 cash awards have been
granted totaling more than $5,500.00.
The Scholarship Committee appreciates the continued support of the Grace Baptist Church family in this wonderful ministry dedicated to the spiritual and intellectual development of our youth.
