GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH P.T.A MINISTRY
The Grace Baptist Church Parent
Teacher Association (PTA) was the suggestion of Miss Gertrude McKinney and was officially
organized on March 13, 1937. The late Mrs. J.W. Goodson was the first president. The
mission of the Parent Teacher Association was to encourage young people to become more
active in Sunday School activities, and to motivate them to continue their education. The
mission is the same today
The PTA meets monthly on the
3rd Saturday at 3:00 P.M. at the church. There are no meetings in July and August. Mrs.
Canarie Smith serves as president of the PT A and there are twenty-eight members.
Through the years, the PTA has
presented Writing Workshops, a Share- A-Child Program, Career Day Programs, College
Financial Aid Programs, Tutoring Programs and recently, a Career Planning Workshop.
Annually, the PTA sponsors the Graduation Program for students who are members of the
church or active in any Church sponsored youth activities, and graduating from
middle/elementary school and high school. The group has also worked with other community
groups to provide information helpful to our youth.
The PTA also provides a $50
stipend to each college student at Christmas. The first stipend was given to Miss Mildred
Roscoe in the amount of$5.00.
One of the favorite activities
of the PTA is the Annual Pot Luck Supper, held every year in November. The cost of the
meal is set to cover expenses only.
Each year the ladies in the PT
A make a personal charitable donation, in the name of the PTA, to a special cause,
such as Christmas gifts to women and/or children in the Women's Shelter or those in
Substance Abuse Treatment.
The Grace Baptist PT A
sincerely appreciates the support of everyone who helps in the work of this ministry. We,
the officers and member of the Grace Baptist PT A would like to invite any interested
members to Join our group
